The London Borough of Hillingdon team achieved the amazing feat of winning the London Mayors' Assocaition Inter-Boroughs Rifle competition for the fifth year running, becoming the only borough to do this in the competition's history.
It was made even more special as this year marked the centenary of the competition. The final, held at Ham & Petersham Rifle Club on 10th September 2011, was attended by the Mayors of the five boroughs competing in the final, Harrow, Hillingdon, Kingston, Richmond and Wandsworth.
This prestigious competition is open the teams of eight from any of the London Boroughs. Three preliminary rounds, shot on each team's home range, are used to find the top five teams which compete in the final.
The final consists of a round-robin competition. In each heat, 2 teams are both provided with 24, 2-inch clay discs at a distance of 100 yards. The first team to break all their discs wins and is awarded 2 points. At the end of this, if there is a draw, there is a final shoot-off.
The Hillingdon team won all their matches in the round-robin competition, breaking all 24 discs faster than the opposing team in each heat. Despite a blustery wind, our fastest time was 55 seconds!.
Ruislip Rifle Club is proud to have provided all the team members of the victorious Hillingdon team once again. |
